A memory from growing up in Iowa. After a high school reunion in the height of sweet corn season I realized how many fond memories are tied up in corn silk. I used a combination of embossing, painting and cutting a mineral-based paper called “Rock Paper” to create this paper sculpture. The background is crinkled rock paper to evoke the lines of the cornfield behind. The picks are patterned after a vintage pair my family used in the 1960s when I was a little kid. I felt important passing out the bright yellow plastic implements for our traditional Midwestern dining experience.
Dad shucked while I passed out the corn picks
